In The Metropolitan Beaches Project, UCI Blum Center researcher Dr. Brett Sanders “aims to raise awareness of beach erosion by focusing on observation and modeling changes in beach trends.”

This research utilizes satellite imagery to track how waterlines have changed over time. Tracking these photos allows Dr. Sanders and his team to directly assess the impacts of climate change and global warming on beaches in metropolitan areas.

Old satellite images play an important role in this research. A recent article profiled the research team and how they develop accurate models when they are relying on older, fuzzy satellite images for their research To read more about Dr. Brett Sanders, his team, and how they are utilizing satellite technology in this research, click here.
