Interactive event designed to bring hunger & poverty issues to life through a simulation, educational presentations, & unique performances.

Hunger Banquet is an interactive community event designed to bring hunger and poverty issues to life through the incorporation of a simulation; educational and informative presentations; and unique performances. This event is a metaphor for how food and other resources are inequitably distributed in the world. Guests draw tickets upon arrival, and each person is assigned at random to a high-, middle-, or low income group, based on the latest statistics about global poverty. Each group then eats a corresponding meal, from nutritious to sparse. The purpose of the simulation is to allow guests to experience a meal in the shoes of someone in a different, possibly less fortunate, living situation. UNICEF at UCI will be collaborating with various cultural clubs on campus, these clubs will have the opportunity to share performances at the event. Guest speakers include UCI students, faculty, and staff.
