ABOUT

The UC Blum Network, formerly referred to as the Blum Federation, catalyzes the power of the University of California (UC) to alleviate global poverty, domestically and internationally. Through transdisciplinary and collaborative approaches, the ten Blum Centers and Initiatives across the UC system implement scalable and sustainable solutions that improve lives across California and throughout the developing world. In addition to creating lasting social impact through its programming, the UC Blum Network prepares future leaders to address global poverty through a range of high-touch experiential learning programs that enable students to garner applied skills, conduct rigorous research, and grow their ideas for advancing societal good.

OPPORTUNITIES

Big Ideas is an annual contest aimed at providing funding, support, and encouragement to interdisciplinary teams of UC students who have “big ideas.” Learn more about timelines, eligibility, and advising on the Big Ideas website.
UPPP 115 (formerly PP&D 115) is an entirely online course open to undergraduates throughout the UC system. Typically offered in Spring, students at other UC campuses can enroll via UC Online.

NETWORK RESEARCH

The UC Blum Network has released a compendium of research working toward reducing poverty and improving health for all populations. The development of the Compendium was led by center directors at the UCLA Blum Center on Poverty and Health in Latin America, the UC Riverside Blum Poverty Institute and the UC Santa Cruz Center on Poverty, Social Enterprise and Participatory Governance.

This compilation, Discovering Solutions for Global Wellbeing, highlights research conducted by most of the 10 Blum Centers of the UC Blum Network. It provides a snapshot of research recently published or currently underway in six thematic areas: 1) using social cohesion to strengthen communities; 2) initiatives to improve health; 3) politics and governance; 4) sustaining the physical environment; 5) frontiers of the social science of poverty and 6) the impact of development.
