Dr. Angela Robinson offered insight into the economic drivers of human trafficking in a recent article published by Dr. Kelsey Morgan (UCI | EverFree) for Fast Company , noting that human trafficking is a big business – the second largest and fastest growing illegal industry in the world.  Criminal traffickers make large sums of money from exploiting other humans while the public ends up with the burden of providing public services seeking to prevent trafficking (i.e. law enforcement) and support survivors (health care, social services).  Morgan includes recommendations for how business leaders and financial institutions, can be more accountable for preventing human trafficking in the article, including strengthening labor laws, implementing zero-tolerance policies for supply chains, and improved background checks and monitoring.
