Recently, several news outlets picked up Blum Center erosion expert Dr. Brett Sanders’ and co-authors’ new publication on predicting the movement and flow of sand among southern California beaches. Coverage references the erosion of the southern Californian coastline from human activity and changes to the climate, government funded sand replenishment projects, and how satellite images analysis of years past can be used to predict how sand will move, accumulate, or disappear from our beaches. Such data is going to be incredible valuable to decision makers planning replenishment projects who need to ensure funds are put into projects that will have the most benefit.
