Blum Center researcher Dr. Brett Sanders was featured in a recent segment on ABC 7 . Leading up to the reopening of the railway line which was closed after a landslide in San Clemente, which also destroyed parts of the iconic Casa Romantica, flood and erosion expert Dr. Sanders explained what makes such slopes vulnerable.  He identified both certain soil compositions, which can become essentially liquified when wet, and beach erosion as key vulnerabilities which affect slopes and put many properties in California at risk. There are some engineering solutions to prevent such slides long term, but Dr. Sanders notes that they can be costly.
