In a new article for CBS, UC Irvine Blum Center researcher Brett Sanders was interviewed in relation to his work on beach and coastal flooding. Following the concerns with Hurricane Kay, Sanders explains the effects on our beaches. He notes that experts noticed “around 5 feet of vertical displacement of sand,” but the hurricane was not the only thing that caused such changes. In addition, Sanders said wave energy rushes and spring high tides caused the aftereffects.

The issue is becoming increasingly relevant with experts seeing erosion effects more often than not, so research like Sanders’ is becoming more and more important for policymakers and people looking for change.
