FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Details regarding the 2018-2019 program will be updated on this site by Fall 2018.
To be eligible for the Global Service Scholars program, participants must be a matriculated UCI or UCSB undergraduate student.
As a result, students who graduate in Spring 2018 and finish their undergraduate career will not be eligible for the Global Service Scholars Program.
Graduating students are however welcome to participate in Psy Beh 192B (Winter 2018) and PP&D 115 (Spring 2018).
Selected students must complete the Advanced Seminar (SocEcol 189) in Spring 2018 to prepare for the Summer travel. The course is only offered in-person at UCI.
Students who are selected for the 2018 cohort will be notified by mid-February 2018. This gives time to enroll in the required spring course (SocEcol 189), apply for a passport, and arrange for recommended vaccinations.
Students are highly encouraged to participate in the weekly discussions as an opportunity to engage with other students and virtual “office hours” with the instructor. However, participation in the weekly discussions is not required in Winter 2018.
Currently, undergraduates at UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara are eligible to participate in the Global Service Scholars program. To do so, they must complete the prerequisite Psy Beh 192B in Winter 2018. The course is online and open to UCSB students via the UC Cross-Campus Enrollment website.
Once the cross-campus enrollment request is initiated via the UC Cross-Campus Enrollment website, it typically takes the UCI Registrar about 24-48 hours to process the request, create the student’s record, and finalize enrollment. After the record is created, the information is sent over to OIT. It takes a full 24 hours for the student’s record to show up in EEE and in Canvas.
The program offers funding to cover airfare, housing expenses, and program fees.
