The annual Designing Solutions for Poverty Competition and New Venture Competition are two ways for innovative ideas to receive support and funding for ideas that have the potential to change the world.
The 3rd Annual Designing Solutions for Poverty Competition is a stand-alone award that will go to the individual or team that best harnesses an innovative idea to make a social impact. The award is open to the entire UCI community, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members.
The 2017 New Venture Competition is one of the nation’s premier new venture competitions offering all UC Irvine students, staff and researchers the opportunity to form a team, create a startup and potentially fund their idea all within six months.
Applicants may consider applying to one or both of the competitions. Applicants and prospective applicants are welcome to join us to learn more about social entrepreneurship and hear from community leaders making a difference.
The goals of the Social Entrepreneurship Breakfast are to:
- Give community leaders and students the opportunity to collaborate.
- Give students who submitted an idea to Designing Solutions a concrete next step in developing their concept and further prepare them to also submit the New Venture Competition concept paper.
- Give students an opportunity to hear from community leaders about specific opportunities and challenges to address in their proposals.
